Confessions by Candy Chang

Hi!

Today, I'm sharing with you something that I stumbled upon, literally, on StumbleUpon.  I enjoy reading and looking at works of art and other pieces of work that are featured in galleries. I particularly like Confessions by Candy Chang because it started as an experiment.  On her site it states, "Confessions is a public art project that invites people to anonymously share their confessions and see the confessions of the people around them in the heart of the Las Vegas strip."

The public had the opportunity to go inside these booths and write their most personal confessions anonymously and share them with the rest of the audience.  This project also played with the idea of "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas," but does it really?  This exhibit helped push that idea into a different direction.

As you can see throughout the photographs, some of the confessions people had written would then be painted on red canvases by Chang.  Other confessions were hung on the wall by strings so that the rest of the public would be able to look through and easily read each confession to their heart's content.

Once again, I just love the idea of people share their darkest secrets, while still maintaining an anonymous identity.  I think that if someone were to read through these confessions, it shows us (the public / audience) that we are all people and some go through far worse or tragic things than others do or vice versa.  It's just an interesting concept and shows that all of these situations happen to others and you would have no idea by simply seeing them on the streets.

Thanks for reading and have a great day! xoxo
